Many years ago, I subscribed to a music magazine dedicated to J-Pop music after being exposed to the diverging range of sounds. It wasn't always mind blowing, but every once in a while the pages showcased absolute gems. Curious to see what the Zuiderparktheater has selected for this festival.
AVO J-Music festival is the place to be for Japanese pop and rock. The festival, which takes place at the Zuiderparktheater, host the sounds of electronic rock band Esprit d’Air, theatrical goth outfit REMNANT and many more. An absolute must for fans of Japanese music and culture.
Ben Terwel (1989) is the programme coordinator of We Are Public for Delft, Leiden and The Hague. Next to that, he also curates the crossover and experimental music selection. Together with the rest of the curators, he works to ensure that these cities' critical programming remains up to par. He graduated from the interdisciplinary Interfaculty of ArtScience at the Royal Conservatoire and Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2012. There he educated himself as a sound artist and performer, with an emphasis on electro-mechanical installations and musical instruments. Over the course of time, he developed a broad and playful interest for the role of art in the twenty-first century, especially when it comes to technology, ecology, food, physicality and democracy.
