Singing for self-esteem
Korean opera singer Jae-Chang Kim teaches singing in the slums of the western Indian city, Pune. In the halls of his Banana Children’s Choir, Kim’s rigid and fiery temper has earned him a reputation, his students nicknaming him the Angry Bird. Singing with Angry Bird follows Kim and his frustrations as he comes face to face with both parents and surroundings who would rather see their kids work to support the family instead of sing their hearts out. But the film also reveals powerful outcome of Kim’s lessons as the children’s confidence grows with each song.
Before the movie, at 19:00, Adeiye Tjon (also known as MC Complex) of Poetry Circle will give a spoken word performance.
