About La Isla Bonita

The five women that form La Isla Bonita create over-the-top theatre spectacles. Based on current trends, the group examines serious societal issues. Their debut La Isla Bonita about rhythmic gymnastics and the boat refugee crisis received nothing but praise. Last year, they were shining bright on the We Are Public programme with their show De Managers, a mix of hobby horse riding and toxic masculinity in business environments.

Until recently, La Isla Bonita was working on a dark and erotic costume drama: Odette, Kater en de Lul. The show’s premiere has been postponed, but in the meantime the collective is staying busy with photography and film endeavours. For instance, their photography series about the (in)visibility of the performer in quarantine.

We Are Public will keep investing in arts and culture. Now more than ever! That is why our membership will work a little differently for the time being:

✔️ Every month our curators will select 15 makers
✔️ Our main focus will be on independent makers, who have been hit hard by the current circumstances. Makers we think are brilliant and want to enable to keep working. Makers who we want to list in our programme again when the time comes.
✔️ As a member you are able to heart makers on our website to express your support.
This month we will distribute € 35.000 between 15 makers.
