Intimate and extremely quiet performance with an adapted violin

When Dutch-American violinist Monica Germino was diagnosed with a rare condition that makes her highly sensitive to sound, she thought it would mean the end of her career. But nothing could be further from the truth. Today, she takes the stage to present her remarkable performance, Muted, written especially for her by leading composers like Michael Gordon, David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and Louis Andriessen. They each wrote pieces of music for her newly-invented ‘whisperviolin’, designed by Marcel Wanders and Bas Maas. During this ‘whisper concert’, Germino will play her new, muted instrument and accompany them with song.

Due to the nature of the concert, there is limited seating. It is advisable to reserve a ticket in advance. Click the ‘How do I get a ticket?’ button to the right.
