Aside from creating magnificent work as a designer and artist, Femke Herregraven sheds a necessary light on the increasingly complex financial systems which control our world, and explores ways how we can reveal them.
Zefir7 presents Schizophrenic Assets, a presentation by designer and artist Femke Herregraven. The exploitation of natural rubber in South-East Asia for early telecommunication contributed to the tax havens of today, with the British Empire as a catalyst, says Herregraven. Financial technologies and infrastructure carve out new geographies, value systems and legislation. Herregraven explores these transitions and creates models and metaphors to reveal them. Her work consists of drawings, prints, games, websites, sculptures, video works and installations.
