For those who love the sunny outdoors
In the lush garden of the Tolhuistuin you will be able to enjoy a perfect mix of film, food and drinks at the second edition of Reflecting Cities. On 12 July 12, the documentary Time is Illmatic will be screened. This summer, Pakhuis De Zwijger will host an outdoor cinema, featuring their own festival Docu by Night. Our team of curators has selected I Am Not Your Negro on 14 July. At het Amsterdamse Bos you can visit Cure Park; an invigorating event with an bustling, interdisciplinary program with workshops, lectures, performances, films and interventions. Exciting!
For those who prefer the cool indoors
Would you rather stay inside? The whole of July you will be able to experience Martin Scorsese’s New York, with access to an exhibition about the filmmaker at EYE and a variety of films on different locations across the city. Photography enthusiasts should not forget to pay a visit to Foam’s Gordon Parks exhibition (3-9 July) or Huis Marseille’s exhibition on the work of Lionel Wendt (11-16 July). Contemporary art can be found at het Stedelijk Museum. Between 24 July and 30 July, Jana Euler’s paintings, sculptural works and texts will be on display. In the last weekend of July there is Sarah van Sonsbeeck installation at de Oude Kerk for you to experience, which lights up when the sun is out.
For the festival fan
Are lukewarm beer and mud the first things that come to your mind when you hear the word festival? Do not worry, because that is about to change! In and around de Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam Julidans will once again host a series of different performances. On 7, 12, 14 and 15 July you are free to check out this exciting dance festival. Also remember to take a look at this one at het Vondelparktheater, or maybe you prefer this one! On 21 July and 23 July you can go and discover outdoor classical music festival Wonderfeel.
For those who like to go explore outside of Amsterdam
Had enough of Amsterdam? Visit Woosah at the beach in Scheveningen between 1 and 21 July for electronic afternoons or evenings filled with afro-electro. Not a big fan of sand between your toes? Take a train to Brabant! The whole of July you have access to some of the country’s finest museums: het Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, De Pont in Tilburg and het Stedelijk Museum ’s Hertogenbosch. Another tip: group exhibition Disruption – Remapping Nature in Park De Oude Warande in Tilburg.
The end of July does not mean the end of summer. In August and September we have some very interesting festivals, summer exhibitions and open air parties for you. Keep an eye on our website!
